Tampa Rough Riders Museum Free Tour

Step back into one of the most remarkable chapters in American military history with a free guided tour of the Tampa Rough Riders Museum, home to the 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment.

Founded in 1978 as a living memorial to President Theodore Roosevelt and the brave members of the Rough Riders, this unique museum brings to life the story of the volunteer cavalry regiment that sailed from Tampa to help liberate Cuba during the Spanish-American War of 1898. The museum features large-scale hand-painted murals by French artist Geff Strik, original artefacts, weapons, uniforms, insignia, and a library dedicated to Theodore Roosevelt and the regiment’s extraordinary legacy.

From the story of the Buffalo Soldiers to the indigenous Cuban fighters who played a pivotal role in Cuba’s third war of independence from Spain, the museum goes beyond the familiar narrative to tell the full, inclusive history of this defining moment in American history.
