Tampa Bay Bucanneers on HBO’s Hard Knocks
Fans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will soon have an exciting opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes peek at the team’s 2017 season.
The Bucs are the latest NFL outfit to star in HBO’s Hard Knocks documentary series, which since 2001 has been chronicling the big and little moments players and coaching staff go through in the leadup to football season.
As a guest of ours here at the Westshore Grand, you’re within field-goal range (if you will) of the Buccaneers’ fiercely defended home turf: Raymond James Stadium, which sets itself apart with the replica pirate ship blasting its “cannons” for Buc red-zone advances and scores. We’re the perfect accommodations, in other words, for catching one of the Bucs’ home games.
Building on Last Year’s Momentum?
And you’ll be primed for that in-person gridiron drama by watching this year’s Hard Knocks, which will start airing on August 8. (In the meantime, you can see a teaser video right here.) It’s an auspicious time for a documentary crew to be following the Bucs in training camp, as last year saw the team put in its best performance since 2010.
The Bucs’ 9-7 record in 2016 included underdog victories over some real heavy-hitters such as the Seattle Seahawks and a five-game winning streak from weeks 10 through 14. Their loss to the Saints in Week 16 (and a Week 17 win by the Eagles over the Cowboys) barred the Buccaneers from the playoffs, though they still got to end their respectable season on a high note with a nailbiter triumph over the Carolina Panthers to close things out.
It’s bound to be fascinating to watch Coach Dirk Koetter and the boys try to improve on last year’s promising gameplay and reach the playoffs, which last saw the Buccaneers in contention back in 2007. And who knows? Maybe, just maybe, the Bucs might reenact the glories of 2002, when they mowed down the Oakland Raiders to take the Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl XXXVII, among the more lopsided in history.
